Album with pictures taken at the fair

Just like every year, this year too, on the 5th and 6th of June, there took place the fair named "Cocosul de Hurezi". The fair hosted craftsmen from the centers: Marginea (Suceava County), From Arges County, Corund and of course, the well known representants of the hosts. As in every year the fair had many, very many visitors from all over the country and from abroad, and, of course, everyone left with a souvenir. The diversity of the exhibits made this year's fair to be different from the fairs of other years: beside the traditional forms (decorative and functional) that all the potters manufacture, we could admire novelties in matter of clay shaping (disputed or not by the specialists). Nicolae Diaconu from Codlea, Brasov County, is a representant of this stream; He made himself known through the carefulness and the graphicaleness of his works. We could admire silhouettes of peasants dressed in traditional clothes, portraits of some personalities with various attitudes etc.

The traditional contest of the craftsmen took place; the jury granted the first prize to the works of Eufrosina Vicsoreanu, their "cut" pleasing our eyes with an absolute special background, but mostly, by preserving her husband's (Victor Vicsoreanu) tradition, with the refinement of finishing the pieces. Probably her story, a little bit bitter, about how she submitted to all the vicisitudes of learning this job, which is becoming more and more rare, from objective and subjective reasons, is not to be overlooked. She told us that, following the tradition of her family (her father being a potter himself), she had learnt how to work from a very early age, but the craftsmanship was achieved only by working under the direct surveillance of her husband, who criticized her works for years and years. Then, the time passing, she succeeded in winning his admiration, the greatest of appreciations being that she obtained from the master the right to work without being surveyed. As for the composition of the motives, she even surpassed him.

It was rejoicing for the specialists to see some young people who exhibited outstanding creations (we hope that tradition in old centers will not disappear and, maybe, we will be able to revive the ones that exist Nome).
