It is a historic monument of religious architecture. It dates to 1633 - 1636 and was raised by Matei Basarab on the place of an earlier monastery. It comprises "Saints Archangels Michael and Gabriel" Church (1636, built by Matei Basarab, painted and restored by Constantine Brancovan in 1706). In the pronaos of the church there is the tomb of a high official, Danciu, Matei Basarab's father and Matei Basarab's tomb. It is listed by UNESCO. The museum collection includes wooden icons (17th - 19th centuries), monk's garbs, silverware and religious furniture, documents, and rare books.
