The "Drăgan Muntean" Memorial House, open to the public right in the home of the late rhapsodist from Poienita Voinii, gathers a collection of objects, elements and traditional forest costumes. The founder of Transylvania, the artist who brought the fame of the Forest Land to the wider world, Drăgan Muntean, left an authentic legacy in his 20 years of artistic activity. The diplomas and awards obtained by him throughout his entire artistic career are also exhibited here. Drăgan Muntean was born on April 18, 1955, in the village of Poienita Voinii, belonging to the commune of Bunila, in the Forest Land. He was one of the most popular performers of popular music not on...ly from Hunedoara county, but from the whole country. He was noticed for the first time in 1965, at a contest in Ghelari, and then his stage appearances began to be more frequent. However, his debut on television, although he was already very well known, was made quite late, towards the age of 30, and since then his musical career has been an upward one, becoming a permanent collaborator of Romanian Television. Drăgan Muntean graduated from primary school in his native village, to then complete his studies in Deva, becoming a teacher in the commune of Veţel and in the municipality of residence in Hunedoara county. Then, after graduating from the Police Academy, between 1997 and 2000, he was the director of the "Ciocârlia" Ensemble of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but homesickness brought him back to Deva, where, until the end of his life, he served as head of the Bureau of Culture, Education and Traditions within the Hunedoara County Police Inspectorate, having the rank of lieutenant-colonel. He enjoyed great popularity, in a career that lasted 20 years, becoming one of the most appreciated performers of Romanian folklore in Transylvania. In full creative power, shortly before his 47th birthday, he suffered a stroke. Despite the doctors' efforts, he died on a hospital bed in Târgu Mureş. On the day of his funeral, the sky also wept, then there were periods of rain, followed by strong sunshine and more rainbows. There have never been so many people in front of the House of Culture in Deva, which bears his name, as at the funeral service of Drăgan Muntean. The breadwinner of the forest dwellers sleeps his eternal sleep in the cemetery in the village of Leşnic, belonging to the commune of Veţel.
