The "Maria Lătăreţu" museum house in Bengeşti-Ciocadia commune, Bălceşti village, was built by the "Maria Lătăreţu" Cultural Association, with the help of several sponsors, in 2006, in 2010 being transferred to the heritage of Gorj County and to the administration of the Museum Gorj County. The building houses many personal objects of the great popular music artist of Romania, (b. November 7, 1911, Bălceşti, Gorj — d. September 27, 1972, Botoşani), these being donated by Ioana Lătăreţu, the daughter-in-law of the artist.
