The museum is housed in a listed building, built in the neoclassical style, whose history starts in 1807 - 1808, when the Hermeziu family owned it. In 1817, Ilie Kogălniceanu, the father of the future politician Mihail Kogălniceanu, bought the property. This is the house where Mihail Kogălniceanu was born and lived together with his family, all his life (1817 – 11891). During World War I, this building housed the Court-Martial, and in 1920 Mihail Kogălniceanu’s daughter sold the building to the Society for the protection of War Orphans. During World War II the house was badly damaged, and later restored. In 1970 it was included in the heritage of the History M...useum of Moldova that organized on the premises a memorial museum illustrating the life of one of the most outstanding personalities from the second half of the 19th century.
