Prince Mircea the Old built the monastery between 1386 and 1390. The two churches, the large one and the church with a hospital, were restored in 1985 and 1986. The museum collection comprises wooden icons (the 16th - 19th centuries), religious texts, religious silverware, church furniture, and Romanian rare books. The museum owns goods listed in the National Cultural Heritage Treasure.
