The National Museum of Romanian Aviation was established by Government Decision no. 197/02.03.1990, it becomes a museum of national importance by H.G. 360/06.04.2011, by Order no. 2709/17.11.2011, the National Museum of Romanian Aviation building is classified as a historical monument, Ensemble category, value group "B", by Orders no. 2791/02.12.2015 and no. 3331/10.11.2020 is re-accredited. The museum opened in 1993, in 5 campaign tents on the Otopeni military airfield. In 1995, the Military Aviation Command assigned the museum a space in front of Baneasa International Airport. Here, it worked until 1998. Later, the General Staff of the Air Force assigned a new exhibition space ne...ar the Otopeni International Airport, the inauguration took place on March 2, 2000. Since 2006, the National Museum of Romanian Aviation has been located in the northern area of Bucharest, in the hangars that in the first half of the century The 20th were on the south side of the Pipera military airfield. This airfield was established in 1915 for the training of pilots graduating from the Cotroceni Military Pilot School. In 2023, the National Museum of Romanian Aviation entered a rehabilitation/modernization process. The rehabilitation and modernization project involves large-scale works, which will span a period of 36 months, resulting in a functional improvement of the buildings. They will receive numerous functions, such as: exhibition spaces, cultural goods storage spaces, cultural goods conservation restoration spaces, cultural goods quarantine spaces, library, conference room, administrative and office spaces, etc. The museum will benefit from modern museum conditions and techniques. The exterior space will also be arranged to include: display areas for technology (planes, helicopters, radar stations, guns, missiles, etc.), explanatory panels with historical content, display routes and visiting circuit, spaces for relaxation, green spaces, tourist information point, souvenir shop, etc. The impact of the rehabilitation/modernization project of the Romanian National Aviation Museum, a unique tourist attraction in Romania, is realized in the increase in the degree of protection and promotion of the aeronautical cultural heritage, increasing its attractiveness, the quality of services and information offered to visitors, thus contributing to the development of the area , preserving the tradition of the place.
